Find the email you remember. Keep it on your computer.
Mailglade reads the folders you choose into a search index beside Thunderbird, and searches whole messages and their attachments. Your mail and your searches never leave the computer they are on.
Version 0.1.0, for Thunderbird 140 and later.

It reads the message, not the subject line
Choose which folders Mailglade may read. It builds an index beside Thunderbird and searches that, without a cloud account, an API key or a subscription.
Whole messages
Bodies, headers and the text inside attachments, including PDFs. A phrase you remember from halfway down a message is a phrase you can search for.

Typos forgiven
A misspelled word still matches the right messages, and a word you half remember matches the rest of it. You do not have to type a name the way the sender spelled it.
- You type
- replacment unit
- Mailglade finds
- “We will ship a replacement unit at no charge”
Keep work, receipts and family apart
An index is a name and the folders it covers. Keep one over everything, or several over different parts of your mail, and pick which one a search runs against.
- NamedEach index has a name you choose and folders you choose. Renaming one changes nothing it holds.
- ChosenA list beside the search field picks the index to search, or every index at once. A message two indexes both hold is shown once.
- NarrowedFilters cut a search down by folder, sender, subject, date or whether a message has an attachment, and a filter you use often can be saved.
- RemovableTaking a folder out of an index removes its indexed copy. Removing an index deletes its files. Your mail in Thunderbird is untouched either way.
What stays on your computer
“Private” should be specific. This release makes no network requests of its own. This is where each kind of data goes.
| Data | Where it goes | Details |
|---|---|---|
| Your mail and index | This computer | Read from the folders you choose and stored in Thunderbird's own storage for the add-on. Removing indexed data in settings deletes it. |
| Searches and results | This computer | Every query is answered from the index on this computer. Nothing about a search is sent anywhere. |
| Network requests | None made | The add-on asks for no host permissions and contacts no server, including this one. Thunderbird itself still talks to your mail provider as you set it up. |
| Usage analytics | None collected | No telemetry, crash uploads or tracking in the add-on, and no cookies or analytics on this site. |
A first release, and what comes after it
Version 0.1.0 does keyword search, and it does it entirely inside Thunderbird. Search by meaning and cited summaries are being built on the same index; both are designed to run on your own computer too, and neither is part of this release.
